Gareth Bale intrigued by Tottenham Hotspur return
Having become a pariah at Real Madrid and increasingly out of the discussion of top players in the European game, it looks like Gareth Bale might be ready to return to England. The Welshman was a Tottenham Hotspur icon, and it looks like the most likely place for him to turn up would be at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Reports in Spain suggest that Madrid, keen to get him off the wage bill, would either let him move on for free or would be happy to take a loan deal. With his relationship irreparable with Zinedine Zidane, it looks like an exit is inevitable for the Welshman. Having missed out on a chance to move to China last year, it looks like Bale – with one of the largest wages in the sport – could be limited in what his options are this year.
Last summer, there appeared to be a sense of Real Madrid looking for the best deal possible on the table. With that highly unlikely now, though, it’s quite possible that Madrid will look to simply get him off the books – either in full or covering some of his wages.
For a player who was such a key part of the Real Madrid era of dominance in the middle of the last decade, it’s a bitter and sad end. However, with both player and club desperate for a change of scenery, an exit this year might make sense for everyone involved.
